Frequently Asked Questions

Easy! Fill out the volunteer form [to come], tell us a bit about yourself, and what makes you tick (or laugh). We’ll be in touch faster than a one-liner at a mic drop.

Volunteers are the backbone of the Montclair Comedy Festival — and we’ve got a wide range of roles to fit different personalities, skills, and comfort zones. Depending on your availability and interests, you might be:

  • Greeting guests and helping with check-in or ticketing

  • Assisting performers with arrival, backstage needs, or transitions between sets

  • Setting up and breaking down chairs, signs, equipment, and merch tables

  • Running tech (sound, lights, cues — if you’ve got the chops!)

  • Selling merch, snacks, or drinks

  • Helping manage lines, crowds, and seating to keep the vibe flowing

  • Floating between venues as a roving helper or runner

  • Posting to social media or snapping photos (if you’re the content-creator type)

  • Being on-call for general support, troubleshooting, or superhero duties in a festival t-shirt

  • Supporting accessibility efforts to make sure all guests feel welcome

  • Cheering loudly and spreading good vibes — yes, that counts too

We’ll do our best to match you with a role that fits your skills and comfort level. Whether you’re a logistics wizard, a people person, or someone who just loves live comedy, we’ve got a spot for you.

Nope! Just bring your good vibes, reliability, and a willingness to help. We’ll show you the ropes—even if they’re made of clown noses.

Yes. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old to participate.

Anyone under 18 will need parental or guardian permission and may be limited to certain roles depending on the venue and shift. Some venues may be 18+ due to licensing or late-night events.

If you’re under 16 and still eager to help, reach out — we occasionally have family-friendly opportunities or other ways to get involved!

Most likely, yes! Volunteers usually get to see at least part of the shows they’re helping with—and sometimes even score passes to others. Laughter is part of the job perks!

You’ll get a cool festival T-shirt, a behind-the-scenes experience, some free comedy action, and our eternal gratitude (plus maybe a high five or three).

Totally! Just make sure they fill out the form too, and let us know you’re a dynamic duo. We’ll try to keep you together unless one of you has a strong “main character energy.”

Most shifts run about 3–4 hours. You can do one, a bunch, or just jump in for a big day. We’ll work around your schedule like comedy works around awkward silences.

Not at all! You can pick one day, a weekend, or the whole shebang. We appreciate any time you can give.

Something comfy and ready for action. We’ll give you a festival shirt to rock while you work. Bonus points for fun accessories.

We try to keep the volunteers fueled! There’ll be water and snacks at check-in spots—plus lots of “you’re doing amazing!” encouragement.

Absolutely. Just let us know what you need signed and we’ll make it official—because we love helping you help us help you.

Things happen! Just give us as much heads-up as possible so we can fill your spot without breaking into a panic polka.

The health and safety of our performers, audience members, volunteers, and staff is a top priority at the Montclair Comedy Festival.

We will follow all local and state public health guidelines in place at the time of the festival. These may include:

  • Masking: While masks are not currently required, they are encouraged, especially in crowded indoor spaces.
  • Vaccination: Proof of vaccination is not required unless mandated by local venues or regulations.
  • Symptoms/Exposure: We ask that anyone feeling unwell, experiencing symptoms, or recently exposed to COVID-19 stay home.
  • Venue-Specific Policies: Some partner venues may have their own COVID protocols in place. If that’s the case, we’ll communicate those clearly in advance of your show or visit.
  • Flexibility: This policy may be updated based on the latest guidance from health authorities. We’ll notify all participants and ticketholders of any changes.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to keep the laughs flowing safely!
